Major fire in industrial park: operations continue into New Year's Day
Thick, black smoke drifted as far as Frankfurt (Germany): Because of a burning tire warehouse, tens of thousands of people in Bad Homburg and neighboring towns were not allowed to leave their homes on New Year's Eve.
Although firefighters immediately broke down doors and windows and pumped vast amounts of extinguishing water inside, they were unable to bring the fire under control for hours. Temperatures of over 500 degrees prevailed in the building. This made it impossible to get directly to the source of the fire. Only two "firefighting support vehicles" - remote-controlled firefighting robots - were able to get closer.
